Free Steam short description checker
Paste your draft to check length, sentence structure, time-sensitive phrases, links and whether the copy communicates a game genre or player action. Your text stays in this browser.
Based on Steamworks store-page description guidance. This is a clarity review, not a Valve approval check.
Lead with the game, not the campaign.
What is it?
Name the genre or recognizable format so the reader can categorize the game quickly.
What does the player do?
Use concrete verbs such as build, explore, survive, manage, solve or fight instead of broad praise.
What makes it distinct?
Include one specific mechanic, setting or constraint that differentiates the experience.
Avoid fragile copy
Steam recommends plain text for the short description. Avoid links, date-dependent claims and copy such as “available now” that may become inaccurate across surfaces or over time.
Validate with people
A checker can flag structure, but it cannot decide whether the promise is appealing. Show the description and capsule together to someone who has not seen the game and ask what they think the player does.
Steam description checker questions
How long should a Steam short description be?
Steam allows up to 300 characters in the short description field. Aim for 15 to 45 concise words that state the genre, what the player does, and one distinctive hook without filler.
Can I use links or formatting in the Steam short description?
No. Valve recommends plain text only in the short description. Save links, awards and formatted sections for the About This Game area.
Is my draft uploaded or stored when I use this checker?
No. The description analyzer runs locally in your browser tab and never sends your draft text to a server.
