Market research / Free workspace

Research your Steam market before you set a price or a launch date.

Before you choose tags, a price or a release window, look at the games you will compete with. Indiely brings public SteamSpy estimates, daily Steam tag snapshots and planning calculators together, with every assumption shown so you can judge it.

What you can research

Public data, clearly labeled.

Steam doesn't publish sales figures, so every market tool works with estimates. Indiely shows where each number comes from and keeps planning scenarios separate from observed data, so you never mistake a guess for a fact. See our methodology for sources and limits.

Competitor game analysis

Look up competing games and review SteamSpy estimates such as owner ranges, average playtime and base price, next to their public store details. Compare two games side by side with the free competitor comparison.

Genre and tag trends

Find games in the same Steam genre and follow daily Steam tag snapshots over time. Check your own tag list with the free Steam tag analyzer.

Planning scenarios

Turn assumptions into ranges: revenue estimates with regional pricing and refund adjustments shown as separate steps, pricing guidance and wishlist projections. Every input is editable.

Use estimates to ask better questions.

Owner estimates and revenue scenarios are approximations, not reported sales. Use them to compare orders of magnitude: is your genre crowded, do similar games sell at your planned price, and how long do players stay? Then test the answers against your own data.

Start with the free public tools.

No account is needed for the wishlist calculator or the revenue calculator. Our guide on how many wishlists you need before launch explains how to set realistic assumptions.

Steam Market Research questions

Where does Indiely market data come from?

Competitor metrics come from public Steam store data and SteamSpy estimates, and tag trends from daily snapshots of public Steam tag data. The methodology page explains the sources and their limits.

Are the revenue and owner numbers real sales figures?

No. Steam does not publish sales. Owner ranges are SteamSpy estimates and revenue figures are scenarios built from editable assumptions. Treat them as planning ranges.

Is Market Intelligence free?

Yes. It is part of Indiely's free core. The wishlist and revenue calculators also work without an account.

How do I use competitor research to price my game?

Compare base prices, playtime and review volume of similar games, then test your price in the revenue calculator with cautious and optimistic assumptions.
